First I would like to join in the congratulations of the recipients of this year's ICDAR Awards. Sargur Srihari will receive the IAPR/ICDAR Outstanding Achievements Award and Masakazu Iwamura the IAPR/ICDAR Young Investigator Award (read more below). This edition brings good news for researchers intending to submit a paper to DRR 2012: The deadline has been extended to July 29! Additionally, you will find in this edition overviews over the many interesting tutorials and workshops to be held in conjunction with ICDAR 2011. Please note that the AND and MOCR workshops deciced to merge and now form the "Joint Workshop on Multilingual OCR and Analytics for Noisy Unstructured Text Data" (J-MOCR-AND). The IAPR/ICDAR Outstanding Achievements Award is presented to Prof. Sargur Srihari for his outstanding and continued contributions to research and education in handwriting recognition and document analysis, and services to the community. Prof. Srihari will deliver the Opening Keynote Speech at ICDAR2011 in Beijing on "Probabilistic Graphical Models in Machine Learning". The IAPR/ICDAR Young Investigator Award is presented to Masakazu Iwamura for his outstanding contributions to camera-based document analysis and document image retrieval. Congratulations to the awardees! The awards ceremony will be held during ICDAR2011 in Beijing, China. The combined event, which will still take place just before ICDAR on Sept. 17, will be called the "Joint Workshop on Multilingual OCR and Analytics for Noisy Unstructured Text Data" (J-MOCR-AND). The two topics are naturally related and we look forward to an exciting exchange of new work and research ideas. The technical program for J-MOCR-AND will be announced soon. Anyone with an interest in these topic areas is welcome to register for the workshop via the ICDAR registration webpage.
