There had been ten successful International Workshops on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition (IWFHR) since 1990 held around the world. ICFHR was first organized at Montreal, Canada in 2008 with its natural promotion from IWFHR. This conference provides a forum for researchers in on-line and off- line handwriting recognition, pen-based interface systems, historical manuscript analysis, writer identification and authentication etc. The program committee invites the submission of papers for consideration of presentation in the Conference. The authors of accepted papers will be invited to present their work in the form of oral presentations or posters. The language of all papers and presentations will be only English. All accepted papers will be published in the Conference proceedings and extended version of selected papers may be published in an International journal. The topics of interest include, but not limited to: * Handwriting Recognition Techniques * Preprocessing and Segmentation Techniques * Classifiers and their Combinations * Multiple Sources and Multiple Experts * Innovative Approaches in Handwriting Recognition * Soft Computing for Handwriting Processing and Understanding * Systems and Architectures * Error Reduction and Performance Enhancement * Writer Verification and Identification * Motor Models for Writing and Drawing * Human Reading Models and Psychological Aspects * Document and Image Retrieval Techniques * Handwritten Annotations in Documents * Forensic Studies and Security Issues * Multimedia Systems * Color Information Utilization * WWW Applications * PDA and Remote Applications Additional details can be found at http://www.isical.ac.in/~icfhr2010/index1.html IMPORTANT DATES Paper submission: February 15, 2010 Acceptance notification: May 31, 2010 Camera Ready paper due: June 23, 2010 ============================================================================ ============================================================================ ***** CALL FOR PAPERS ***** 25th ACM Symposium on Applied Computing Document Engineering Track 22 -- 26 March 2010, Sierre, Switzerland For the past twenty-four years, the ACM Symposium on Applied Computing has been a primary gathering forum for applied computer scientists, computer engineers, software engineers, and application developers from around the world. SAC 2010 is sponsored by the ACM Special Interest Group on Applied Computing (SIGAPP), and is hosted by University of Applied Sciences, Western Switzerland (HES-SO) and Ecole Polytechnique fe'de'rale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. Document Engineering is the branch of computer science that investigates systems for documents in any form and in all media. Document engineering is concerned with principles, tools and processes that improve our ability to create, manage, store, compact, access and maintain documents. The fields of document recognition and retrieval have grown rapidly in recent years. This development has been fueled by the emergence of new application areas such as the World Wide Web (WWW), digital libraries, and video- and camera-based OCR. The use of OCR is spreading from high-volume, niche domains to more general tasks, including the processing of noisy "real-world" documents, photocopies, and faxes. The ICPR 2010 contests will provide a setting where participants will have the opportunity to evaluate their algorithms using publicly available datasets and standard performance assessment methodologies, publish their results in the proceedings of an internationally acclaimed conference, and discuss technical topics in an atmosphere that fosters active exchange of ideas. Members from all segments of the pattern recognition community are invited to submit contest proposals for review. Each proposal will be assessed for its scientific content, proposed structure and overall relevance. Contest organizers will be responsible for the infrastructure of the contest (including provision of data and evaluation of results), inviting participants and ensuring their participation, and preparing an overview paper of the results. Furthermore, individual results of the contests can be presented at separate workshops at ICPR 2010 provided that these workshops do not divert papers from the main conference. Submission Requirements: Researchers interested in organizing a contest as part of the ICPR 2010 Conference are kindly invited to send the following information to the Contest Chairs by *Friday, August 28* at the latest: * Names and contact information of organizers * Title of the contest * Short description of the contest explaining its necessity, potential, relevance and timeliness * Short description of the data and the performance evaluation methodology that will be used in the contest * Short biographies of the organizers depicting their expertise in the field of the contest * Expected number of participation in the proposed contest * Any special request concerning practical arrangements, such as infrastructure, equipment, connectivity, etc. (Contest Chairs cannot guarantee satisfaction of these requests) Important Dates: August 28, 2009 Deadline for submission of proposals September 28, 2009 Acceptance notification April 30, 2010 Deadline for the overview paper of the contest August 23, 2010 ICPR 2010 in Istanbul Contest Chairs: Asst.
