This issue is almost all about workshops, with many interesting topics, some focusing directly on document analysis and recognition such as DAS workshop, while others explore related aspects such as trustworthy document understanding, heritage content or text information processing.

Also, find in this issue information about the first '''''virtual''''' ICPR conference, to be held in 2027 between this year’s ICPR 2026 (Lyon, France) and ICPR 2028 (Sydney, Australia).

In other news, IAPR President Prof. Robert Fisher will be a Keynote Speaker in ICPRAI 2026.

DAS 2026 will feature several keynote talks addressing timely and engaging topics in document analysis and recognition—any perceived enthusiasm on my part is, of course, entirely objective.

The 17th IAPR International Workshop on Document Analysis Systems (DAS) will take place on 3rd & 4th September, 2026 at TU Wien in Vienna, Austria. It will be held in conjunction with ICDAR 2026.

- In-person major international conferences typically cost $3000 to attend - Only one person from a lab typically can attend (due to cost) - Mainly only authors attend (due to cost) - The environmental impact of travel - Visa problems are restricting ability to travel

An online conference reduces accidental face-to-face interactions. However, it does allow new possibilities. Innovations that we are trying are:

* many (50+ depending on the paper topics) smaller thematic sessions that allow easier interactions between and with authors. Delegates can attend as many or as few sessions as they wish.
* Sessions are concentrated over 5 hours, but spread across 5 days and 2 weeks to give delegates space for their normal professional lives
* Extensive recording, so delegates can catch up on sessions they missed due to concurrent sessions or timetable conflicts.
* Open the conference platform 1 week before the conference, to allow browsing of the abstracts, papers, and short and long videos. This will make it easier to identify thematic sessions to attend, and authors to contact (using each paper’s persistent chat interface).
* Low attendance cost. We aim for $400 for authors and $25 for non-authors at this non-profit conference.

The workshop on Textual Information Processing & Synthesis in the Wild (TIPS), will be held on August 21st, 2026 in Lyon France (in conjunction with the ICPR 2026 conference).
